but (quite rightly IMO) the fella can cu tthe numberrs out the floor of the old shell and weld it into the donor shell. Nothing iffy about it, the cars being built with 'straight' bits and used a 'straight' donor shell. If he does declare to DVLA he runs the risk of a 'Q', insuranjce problems etc. Not worth the hassle. I'd put the original numbers in the new shell. Everythings legit, the ar and shell aren't bent so I personally see no harm in it.
you cant just take one id from a shell and swap it over to the new shell because you have most of the bits,its takin the history away from the good shell and replacin it with the history of the scrapper
cars come from factory with id's,if the car dies the id dies,different to buyin a new shell and doin it but not replcin with a shell thats already got its own identity

oh and the red s1 which has the 2 bolt strut is a ringer as discussed on nearly every ford forum on the net,s1's never came with the 2 bolt type strut and its got an s1 id,not rocket science
