When you tighten them it needs to be from the inside out so that you effectively smooth the head gasket outwards, rather than clamping it at the end and possibly having some slack in it.

When removing it, i can think of NO reason why it makes the slightest bit of difference what order you do it in, and i challenge anyone else to TBH.
