that was my first thought, but...
I have been advised (rightly or wrongly, I don't know) that to remove the barrel you need to turn the key to position 2 (can't turn it for reason stated) and press some hidden button that no-one seems to know the location of.

Seeing as I am more computer techincal minded than car technical minded if anyone knows how to remove that barrel with that bit of "key" in it - I'd sure be happy to give it a go
