the needle jumping is caused by either the TDC sensor not working quite right,
or more likely in this case, the Multi plugs that sit just above the engine
on the bulkhead in the engine bay.
my car was doing exactly this before i cleaned the plugs!!

but as Smit and others say. the earths Will do a lot for you too!
