A while ago my 2wd Saff burst a water pipe whilst i was driving along the motorway,

i lost all water and the temp gauge started to rise i stopped before it reached the red to investigate (neddle into N of NORM).
I have now fixed the broken pipe

and taken the car out, driven down the motorway 60-70mph, and noticed that the temp needle sits higher than half way, when before it sat at around 1/3 up the gauge. The radiator and turbo coller were both hot (water circulating).
Any suggestions as to why the gauge is showing higher now ???
May the temp sender be affected from the loss of water a slight overheating ???
thanks for any help
Dave
