I have owned a 38A but was a 4.0 SE & they do suffer from various problems
Blend motors, air suspension as examples.

The old 2.5 BMW diesel was, i believe derived from the marine engine, & will return abt 22mpg but as stated is underpowered.

Mine runs the new BMW 3.0 diesel &is plenty performance for a beast of its size.
I dont drive ot slowly & it returns 19.7 round town - up to 24/5 on long motorway runs

Would not see the point in running a V8 petrol ever again
