It sounds like you have just bought one of our generation 1 coolers..The fans are fixed to the front of the intercooler blowing back over the radiator.
Unfortunatley you can not use the uprated fan kit with this one (it simply will not fit).
You should check the direction of the fans ,if they are wired backwards they will suck instead of blow.
