The pipes being fuel line and not being jubilee clipped on will be the problem...........
The compression test will tell all but if its breathing heavy doesnt sound good?
You may have a fault on your breather system though if it runs with the cap off and is breating heavy.
Piston gone usually means smoke from the exhaust, so it might not be too bad
