Laptop spec question - quick one!
Right, I want a laptop, but not to use with wireless internet, or play games on - or well, for pretty much anything really.
I want it to act as an MP3 player basically. I play drums (as some might know) and tapes just ain't cutting it anymore! It takes too long to copy music onto tapes and then find tracks on cassettes using an old stereo, when I want to play to them while drumming.
So, the idea is get a cheap lappy, load up WMP and a bunch of MP3's to play too.
Now, I hear you all saying "just get an mp3 player you plank!" but there is reason to my madness!
The other thing I would like it to be able to do is allow me to record audio onto it (using a sound recorder type programme). I would probably need an external sound card for this (PCI cards are available for what I want) tho the std line in would suffice for the mo....
The only thing is the actual spec of the lappy.
I have found a cheap one on fleabay, which ends real soon. It's in my price range (£50 is all I have available to spend on a lappy for this purpous) but the spec ain't great;
266 MHz Pentium 1
64mb Ram
10gb HDD
Win 98
Floopy drive (need to get the interchangeable CD-ROM drive so as to be able to load MP3's onto it easily)
Whilst 266mhz and 64mb is poverty spec by todays standards, it's probably enough to run WMP with MP3's, but I am not sure if it is enough to let me record onto it....
Any idea's? Don't wanna spend £50 odd quid if this ain't gonna do it, but at the same time, I am loathed to spend decent money (£100-£150 on a "good spec" lappy what won't get used much and only for very little....
