We all went through this when Jim Galbally's car expired, and everyone was all "yeah, I'll donate £10 etc etc".
At the time, I was one of the only ones who questioned it, NOT because I was denegrating on people's right to give, but purely because it doesn't qualify as charity by its merits.
At the time, I got slated by a few people who said that it was wrong for me to criticise Jim's car fund that was started on his behalf, yet I recieved that many PMs thanking me for saying it that my PM box filled.
just so you know pon, the "jim car fund" never actually existed. nobody gave me any money or parts
b19bal lent me the orion (now in the hands of lennie @ ltp), and a few people (whom are my FRIENDS) helped with getting the car roadworthy by donating time and effort, all of which was massively appreciated, and without it i really would have been well and truly fucked... these people in my eyes were true friends and i was greatful to have them in my time of need.
b19bal deserves a special mention as he is one of the most selfless people i have ever met, and would bend over backwards to help a mate
