Default electrical problems

I've had my FRST for about 3 weeks now, and have twice had problems re-starting the car when its hot.
I'll briefly try and explain the problems.
I drive a couple of miles, giving it some stick, when I turn the engine off and try to re-start it turns over very slowly and won't start as if the batterys flat. The last time this happened i fetched my other car, used jump leads and started it.
Then drove home approx half a mile, parked on the drive and have re-started it several times.
I have had the battery tested and it is ok and I've checked the alternator output to the battery, with heaters and lights on etc and it is reading 14.5 volts at the battery terminals.
The previous owner tells me that the starter motor is close to the exhaust and when it gets hot it won't start, but why would it start with jump leads.

Any ideas?
