And I cannot see any reason why people should need to cut the original rubber to remove the windscreen, especially when the screen is broken. Maybe it's cos it's my job and am trained, but I have never had a problem removing a screen and rubber from an Escort (or Fiesta, Pug 205, Golf, etc) without braking the screen or tearing the rubber. Sure there is a risk, but it is very slight.....
Dont use new rubber

Thrush nice explanation always found it easier to start with the rope from looping it both sides half way up.
True, you can do it that way - I always do that on large screen like Merc vans, or lorry's, but for ease of talking someone through it that has never done before, it's a lot easier not to mention looping the rope at certain points And on small cars like Escorts, 205's, Golf's, etc, you can get the corners lined up pretty easily from the outside, so less need for the loops - I have only ever found the need for loops on screens where it is virtually impossible to line up the corners (like the fooking Arctic I did last week - man THAT was a bastid Screen weighed a TON (took two of us to lift it) and it was a git to get in and get it flat )
