There is so much that is fundamentally wrong in this country and no one party is going to sort it out in a hurry.
At one point you could break it down quite simply and if you thought people should be looked after by the state in terms of free education, free health care and a pension, the old 'Cradle to Grave' you'd vote labour, if you thought bollox to everyone else, I'm alright jack, I'll sort me self out, you voted conserative and if you were a bit wishy washy and couldnt make your mind up you voted Liberal.
But now the lines are sooo blurred, Labour realised the press had done such a good job at demonising the Unions after the Miners Strike and the Print disputes of the 80's that the only way they would get elected is if they distanced themselves from all that, and in the end I think Labour have even 'Out Toried' the Torys
And the only people who seem to be talking any sense are the lib dems... I mean decriminalising weed, putting up income tax a bit to pay for all these things. At the end of the day you dont get owt for nowt... someone has to pay the piper so some people need to pay a little bit more tax.
JRST you say that often homeless people dont take advantage of what is being offered to them, that is because many of these people have mental health problems, another minority in the community that on the whole are ignored and let down by the state with the failing 'Care in the community'
And all the time we are being told, no money to fund this, no money to fund that and then the public see more and more people coming into this country to either sponge of our welfare state, get housing etc etc etc aswell as the ones that are working sending money out of this country... all of which is a drain on our economy which means the money isnt there to pay for essential services.
I agree that no one can fault the work ethic of the Asian community and their sense of Community and the importance of Family.
After all its what made this country great through the first 80 years of last century, it was only when Thatcher came to power and created this whole 'Greed is Good... Me Me Me... its all mine and bugger everyone else' attitude that the country starting going down hill rapidly.
However a large proportion of Asian people arent integrating into British society and embracing our culture.
My sister has had a couple of Asian boyfriends and they have been nothing but trouble from day 1, not because they havent been nice lads but because of their families, the shame of having a white girlfriend...
Although I dont really think this is about the 'traditional' Colonial Biritsh immigrant. I think only the die hard Alf Garnet types have a problem with these people, most British people have accepted the influx of the last 40 years or so.
I feel now most peoples anger is aimed at Eastern Europeans and Africans
