Yes this is true. Its been around for years.

I prefer using gas though.
If you use that much try buying/hiring a small bottle from your local welding supplies.

You can just use the gasless wire in your mig welder, although you will need to buy some 0.8mm tips, and read your instruction book for the welder as you will need to change the settings.
