Hmmmmmm if the knockings that loud then maybe it isn't but bottom end noises don't usually come and go, i think the majority on here have pointed at lifters because they operate from the pressurised oil supply.

To be honest though if it is a lifter thats intermttently playing up your not going to be able to tell a lot by looking at them?
