Its great if you're not taking plugs off, which would seriously hinder the fitting of the pectal braided stuff.

Its got all the properties i'm after, it stays flexible, even with the slit down the side, and when you twist it, the slit stays inline on the both halves keeping the seal.

To hold it to the body work, my mate suggested just putting a self tapper and washer through it into the metal behind to hold it solid to the contour of the bay.
