I run konis on my 3dr and bilsteins on my 4x4.
My rear konis are medium with std springs all round.
I found them brilliant. Bilsteins were easier to get but I find the ride is harder than the konis and I don't notice any difference in handling.

I'd be seriously worried if a shock burst just from squatting under acceleration, sounds more like some dukes of hazzard running.
