If its done rightly then yes you should see improvements. Head work is expensive, for a full works head its usually in the range of £700-£1000 IIRC. Realisitically you are probably looking at a couple of hunred for some basic porting and polishing. Like anything though don't expect this to turn your car into a cossie muncher, but it will help.
