There is more cost effective ways of doing this. Have you actually got a reason to take it off or are u just being cautious? Personally if its just as a check i would perform a compression test. Your going to pay £40ish for a head gasket set plus the price of skimming the head.

couldnt agree more, Why the hell you gonna take the head off just to check gasket??? the minute you take the head off you will need a new one

not to mention new head bolts and highly recommended, new timing belt and tensioners. if you arent experiencing any symptoms of a blown head gasket then dont bother mate.
especially if you dont know what you're doing. if you get it wrong putting it back together, ie. one notch out on the timing, you could bend valves and end up in a worse position than you started.
Forgot about the bolts thats another £15 ish
