A very good mate of mine was british kuk sool won champ a couple of years ago. And trained for years to fight in ufc. He got his arse kicked by 15 guys one night outside a pub and was seriously injured. He always told me that no matter how good you are at martial arts theyre virtually of no use in the real world. He always told me that after doing kuk sool for about 20 years the one thing he's learnt is to talk his way out of fights and to avoid situations where he would have to use them. He also told me that if your local saturday night pissed hard man jumps on you and starts kicking the fook out of you no amount of training will help sure you can defend yourself but most of it is to keep someone at a distance and unless you can actually get a good punch in and knock them out if they just start punching you left right and centre its very hard to defend yourself. There's also a very great risk of you punching and killing someone if you're that good at martial arts. I know people who have put people on the floor with throat punches or very good use of pressure points but if you're drunk and trying to do that chances are it could go wrong and you'd kill someone.
Plus in this day and age with all the people carrying tools, knives and in places like birmingham, nottingham etc guns avoiding fighting is the best form of defence
