I always thought the Motorsport tag was just another name for Poverty Spec - nothing to do with any kind of competition, just no goodies onboard.
Bare shells sold by Ford don't have VIN numbers. It comes with a normal VIN plate but stamped up on the "wrong" side describing the model and spec for the car (the back is all printed for the various items of info) and shows where the shell was consigned to. Mine even stipulates the sliding roof, and shows the colour as Primer.
Once the car is built up, tested and inspected, the local DVLA office allocate a chassis number.
