gentelmen i dont think the all around groove is correct.the shell with groove and the oil hole is to allow good flow into the bearings.the plain shell is located in the bearing cap where the max load is transfered to the bearing from the crank shaft due to the conrod driving downwards.
the grooved shell in cap will have less surface area
although it may work fine, i dont think it is correct
if plains are fitted in the caps from manufacture then they should be fitted in rebuild .
