The hot starting problem could be the same issue that all Mk3 1600i escorts had, the alternator solenoid getting too hot and stops working. Once cooled down it starts working again.

Symtoms are:
When stationary for a long time and the engine gets warm enough for the fan to kick in, then you switch the car off and immediately try and re-start it, it either appears to have a dead battery or is very slow and sluggish turning over.

Good luck in sorting it out thou, just remember, we're all in the same boat and we all drive tempremental cars that often throw hissy fits!
