Proving that the brakes were suddenly faulty at the time of crossing the red light is the problem as far as the law is concerned.
Look at it this way, you brake late for a red light, cross it, get to the other side, snap off the vac hose to the servo, call for a breakdown truck and recover to a dealer and ask for proof that the brakes weren't working.
Bingo, no fine or points?
The courts won't be very sympathetic even if it was actually true.
