Would be much better applied by machine.
If you do go this route then personally i would go for either of these:

Portercable or Cyclo.
They are both orbital buffers so you wont burn the paint.
The porter cable is cheaper at around £80 and the cyclo around £170.
Mind you these prices are from the states lol.

Well worth it though
