1 - The pictures quality of SDTV (standard definintion TV) is worse on an LCD or Plasma compared to the old fashioned CRT Tvs.
2 - HDTV isnt broadcast yet and even when it is it will be a while before there's enough content to warrant a HDTV.
3 - All those poor people that have gone out and paid top price for a HDTV ready Tv are most likely just 720p compatiple (1080i if you paid even more!) However there is now gonna be 1080p broadcasts! which puts 720p at the low end of HDTV already before we've even had a single broadcast yet!
I personally am biding my time for prices to fall and for the standard in HDTV to be defined.
But in answer to your question - I cant really reccomend anything!

Get your self onto some Home theater or AV forums for reviews on Tv screen

Those are some very good points. We've just got a 28" Philips LCD HD Ready, and its shockingly bad for picture quality compared to our old CRT set. Chances are its going back under the "cooling off period" Its passable on slow moving things. But watching a WRC car go past was blurry. Which gives you an eye ache as you are constantly trying to refocus the item. And to be hinest standing in Currys looking at all the other LCD/Plasmas they simply aren't good enough to warrant the prices.
They may not be "fashionable" anymor, but a large CRT is a) cheaper and b) better picture quality. Which is all that really matters on a TV isn't it.
