Following on from a reply to the Power Engineering thread, I felt that it was better discussed here, to avoid taking a decent thread off topic......

foreigneRS,

I do see your point and always did, however, how much detail is exactly required for a fan for this purpose??

If one really wanted to be thorough about things, then our engines would be built a whole different way. I, for one, know that there are things that I could have done to my engine internally that I opted not to do, just to keep things realistic. After all, we aren't talking F1 are we??

The same applies to the fan's that Tuning companies all across the world are using.

Regarding our fan, I have had an adaptor made to concentrate air to a reasonable sized outlet (and I don't mean 250x250mm) to direct airflow to the part of the car where Air would normally enter the engine bay. What's the point of blowing air at the wings and headlights? I just see alot of potential wasted air and it doesn't take an engineer to see that.

OK, so in an ideal world, we would have paid an specialist to sort our Fan scenario out, but we, like most other companies that still want to exist in 10 years and not have to charge £200 per hour labour rates to account for R&D of all the equipment that we use decided to have a go ourselves. Luckily for us, we aren't totally inexperienced. Our previous place of work use a fan of very similar design that is fairly successful and is only 3.5kw and with less than half the potential Airflow of ours, so we reckon on that basis, ours should be enough for what we need.

Besides which, we have plans to supplement it with Extraction too, which will greatly assist the Cooling effect.

It's a bit like saying that you need a WRC spec engine for a Stage 3 YB conversion. OK, so the strength would be good, but is it really necessary?
