I'm trying to choose a powerplant for my mk2 escort and have been advised a Zetec is a good option since it's not as heavy as a cossie lump and is cheaper to get reliable and reasonable amounts of power from than a pinto. (not to mention easily available for cheap $$$).

However, I've also heard that technically the Duratec is a much better engine. NO idea why though, so I'd be grateful if anyone could tell me, and also if it would be easy to swap the zetec for a duratec at a later date (when they're cheaper!) without any structural changes to the car bearing in mind it will involve a fair amount of hassle to get the zetec in there in the first place!
