snowy astra is right, its an NTL problem, the good news is that you can fix it
NTl use something calls transparent proxies, when you visit a website you dont get the data directly from th site, it goes via a proxy server at NTL. this is intended to speed up access to websites (plus save NTL money on bandwith) now, these proxy server are always playing up

so what you have to do is force your PC to use a new one

there are also instructions on how to change it. but in brief..
Tools... Options... Connections... LAN SETTINGS... and put in the address in the proxy server box (bottom of page) and port 80
