There will be less resistance in the wiring when using the relay because

a) the wiring is newer - old wiring gets brittle and increases resistance
b) you are taking a direct feed from the battery (via a relay) so you are not going through the whole car loom to power the fan (longer wiring also increases resistance)

so yes it will be fed more current so spin faster
