I owned a STi 8 + PPP with 18"s for over a year and chopped it in for an L200 pickup truck in attempt to be sensible, big mistake!
I personally wouldn't bother the PPP again just go straight for the aftermarket tuners like the TSL 333 conversion, assuming your not too bothered with the warranty. If you want the warranty then a PPP is a great way to go, and whether its 280/290/300/310 they still go well and handle like you wouldn't believe.
anyway, having done 4 track days in mine they are a cracking piece of kit more prone to understeer than say an EVO but most of the bad rep is down to poor driver skills like mine

then someone pointed out that there is a limit to what speed you can do and expect the car to go in the direction you wish
I had an all day long spat with an EVO FQ300 at Brunters and our cars were completely on a par nothing in it, great fun, 4 wheel drifting for fun even for me!
Slightly bobbly ride with standard suspension, my paint work seemed a bit prone to stone chips as well, apart ffrom that bomb proof!
I had a TSL firestorm exhaust fitted to mine and it sounded awsome, like a jet fighter on full chat!!
