I've just changed one (different car) that behaves exactly as you'd expect in hot water (stays firmly shut until it sees boiling water out of the kettle) , but in the car the coolant temperature never goes above 75 degrees while it's moving!! New stat, problem solved..
Thanks for that, I'll try and flush the heater matrix then re-fit the thermostat. If that's no better, I'll get a new stat.
