common fault so i hear,overheating problem. raise it off floor so air can get all around unit (underneath etc) and keep it off carpets as the fibres hold the heat, also try using a fan to cool unit down and keep away from radiators.
does make you laugh that you have to do that to make it work
you should be able to pretty much put it where you like .. bin is the best place
