will anyone actually check it out?

i was thinking about this last night you see, and thought because of my lame school i didn't do my gcses - it's a long story - now i think i'm fairly right in thinking if a put in a job application for a better job than i am in at the moment it could get put straight in the bin for only having a qualification in what i do as opposed to another candidate who has that plus half a dozen gcses/a levels.

Which brings me nicely onto plainly lying about it will the company check? if they do check who do they actually check with?
