You won't get much noticable chatter without the DV and you will not damage the turbo by not having one. You won't sound like a bus either which is a bonus. If it's not there it can't play up. I've had three DV's on my S2 and the best thing I did was remove it completely. The general consensus is if you aren't running over 30psi or a T4 turbo then you don't need one.

My feeling is that if it doesn't aid the performance I see no point in fitting it

Some people love them all the same though.
