They were Cosworth's own internal/build project codes..........

YXX March 1983.........this was the original factory proto-type using the T88 16 valve head on a pinto block.

YXX October 1985........A development of the above engine with a turbo bolted on, and quite a few internal changes to suit....The first production YXX's were built at the new purpose built Wellingborough factory......18,990 units built

YXX January 86..........Group A rally engine.

YXX June 87......these were "recycled YXX stock" converted to RS500 spec.....525 units built.

YXX March 87......built for comercial sale for non Ford road car use.

YXX April 87......Race RS500 engine = 560 BHP !

YXX October 89....."green top" and YXX......"red top". total of 12,515 units built.

YXX March 92......"blue top" big turbo Es Cos engine, total of 5,186 units built.

YXX June 94......"silver top" small turbo Es Cos.
