I'd rather "happily run 50bhp" than fix a car that was "okish running 100bhp"!

Seriously though mine will be running 100bhp on a Maximiser set up from Wizards of NOS, but only when I know my engine is mint. Currently I wouldn't put 25 bhp in and expect it to last. But that's my current rattly engine.

Like I said, all depends on the health of your engine / depth of your wallet / proximity to Chip and his mad ideas!
