Default Networking question again...(Sorry).....

Ok,

I need to understand the different options there are in relation to me using Networking in my home.

I dont know that much about it to be honest, so the more info the better really.

I have an old computer, P266 running win 98se and in another room (approx. 8 meters away) is my New system Athlon XP64 3200 etc etc.

Now in my very simple understanding i can connect the 2 together i.e. Networking, but my question is what is the best way?

As my new system runs Win Xp X64 there are the problems with USB 64 bit drivers being unavailable, so i cannot get access to the internet using it at the moment, and have to use this old computer instead via USB ADSL modem.

I do kow however though, that i can use my new system if i were to use the Ethernet port instead
Im assuming this means in the form of either an Ethernet modem or an ethernet modem router???

My understanding here is that i could use and ethernet modem router plugged into my new system via the ethernet port. and then connect the second (old) pc via a network cable to the router...Is that right???

Does this also mean though that i could also go wireless and do away with the second pc cable, and just have a wireless receiver on the old PC???

Is wireless better than cable (with the obvious difference of having no cables), what about reception problems etc??

And finally all things considered, what make components would you recommend???

Alot of questions i know, but for somebody in the know im sure wont take you long.

Thanks in advance
