It has a full blown EPG and menu - look up the program for whatever number of days ahead and press the red button to program it to switch on and activate the VCR to record the programme. You can also programme it the old fashioned way by putting in the channel, date, time, duration etc yourself.

The Panasonic has none of that, just now and next.
