If I were to hold fire until the spring and spend a few more pennies, i'd be on the hunt for a cheap Jap mobile with forced induction, such as EVO (I, II or III), Early WRX, Pulsar GTiR, Older shape GT4, maybe even an R31 and do the same sort of thing there

think that's better VFM than, say a 944 Turbo for that sort of thing
