I worked it out the other day, 40% of my wages go on nothing but tax.
actually it is higher than that, as nearly everything you buy has vat@17.5% tax
fuel has about 60% tax
then you pay road tax
council tax
and what is sneaky (or stealth) is that the 40% income tax threshold hasn't risen in line with inflation/cost of living for the whole time labour has been in , so you are in fact paying 40% on more than you did 10 years ago in real terms
