***STOP PRESS***

I know what it is.. especially as it was fine, then deteriorated really quickly..

It's the fuel pump... It's a small rubber pipe on the pump that's held in place with a metal clip that eventually slices thru the pipe and leaks the fuel back into the tank... There enuf pressure to squirt petrol if you undo the fuel rail feed and key it over, but not enuf to push it thru the injectors (2.5 - 3.0 bar)

Stu diagnosed this when mine did exactly the same thing and needed an AA recovery...

I fitted a 'stage 1' pump (standard EsCos) and it worked fine...

It's major grief getting the tank off tho... If you're doing it yourselve's, you need more of a lift than a set of ramps.. (you might be able to do it, but it's gonna be tight..)

I borrowed the corner of a friends garage and lift, and it was still aggro... ALSO.. make sure you don't break the metal retaining straps, as Ford don't do them anymore... and they'll be well rusty...
