I have a mk5 xr3i 105ps model, was pretty nippy, but with a full induction kit and ecu remapping it made a noticeable difference. After that I had a reconditioned gearbox (when I bust mine street racing) and had the gears cut so the ratios were further apart. I got to 34mph in 1st gear, 87mph in 2nd and 110mph in 3rd.. I only ever tended to use 1st 2nd and 5th gear seeing as I left most cars to eat dust at the lights! Of course, not as quick as a turbo but it was nippy. I would echo the others advice though, if your heart's set on a turbo charged car, buy it ready done unless you wanna see money go down the drain
