Default Password protecting drives over a network?

I don't understand right, basically i got 3 computers here

Desktop:
Win 2k pro/netgear wireless router hardwired in

Laptop #1:
Win xp home running off wireless router wirelessly

Laptop #2:
Same as 1

Now when im on the laptops, if i try to access my c: d: e: drives on the desktop (running 2 k) it asks me for username and password...which are the same as my windows logoon password.

Now, when i try to access c: on the laptops via the desktop, it says 'access denied' because of the firewall. But when i switch the firewall off i have full access.

What i want to know is how can the firewall still be on protecting things, but where i can also enter my usermane and password to get in and keep others out.

Cheers
