what, to replace it?

never done it, but i know that to put the cable back on, lift the pedal so that the ratchet is released and then you can turn the quadrant against the spring to it's initial setting. put the cable in and release the quadrant and the spring tension takes up the slack. push the pedal in slowly a couple of times to set the ratchet position.
