the idle valve is infact a cold start valve and has no use once the engine has fully warmed up, as idle once warm, is controlled by the base idle screw under the throttle body.

did you buy the right valve as there are 2 - one with a diode and one without, not sure if they are interchangeable on L6 ecu's tho
