Gave up a career as a mechanic after serving my apprenticeship and 6 years in the trade. Now I'm a sales advisor for a massive bathroom showroom just outside Bristol.

Not a day goes by where I don't miss working on cars and wondering what I could be doing instead of sitting behind a desk having to be nice to a complete asshole of a customer.

Problem is I had to quit the spanners because it wasn't paying the money I needed to get a mortgage and first house. I'm on nearly £20,000 a year more now and just could not afford to take that kind of a pay cut to go back.

The only way I could get this kind of money as a mechanic would be if I worked for myself but am not in a position to make that kind of commitment at the minute and won't be for a long time.
