if your car fails on any of the following, the MOT guidebook states a re-test is free.

Tyres
Lights
Seatbelts
Sharp Edges
and a couple more i forget,

If the car fails on anything to do with ancherages or mountings - IE, brakes, chassis members etc etc, then you will be charged a retest.
