Big Winged Sump, Baffles and gates
Hope someone can help me with the following question.
Last year I fitted a 4WD engine into a kit car. It's a standard spec engine, oil pump and pickup matted to a 2WD sump. I had to chop a small amount off the front of the sump bowl to clear a chassis rail (I have lost about 10% of the volume). I think the same problem exists when fitting the Cosworth engine into a MK2 Escort. The car has been on the road for a year with no oil starvation problems however I run the oil just over the full and check it regularly. I am taking the engine out over winter to fix leaking front and rear crank seals (maybe because I am running the oil level very high???) I thought it would be a good opportunity to fit a winged sump to restore the oil volume. I can add the wings myself but I am not sure if it is necessary to baffle and/or gate the sump. If this is necessary can anyone recommend someone (preferably around the Manchester area) who knows how to do this. I can't just buy a standard winged sump because of the chopped bowl on mine.
Any help much appreciated. Steve
