The best way I have found to set the cams up is to find true TDC while the head is off using DTI gauge and a timing disk been a while but if I remember correctly there is a 10degree dwell period when the piston reaches the top of the bore until it starts to move down true TDC is in the middle of whatever the calculated dwell period is once that is done and you have an accurate way of repeatable setting this move on to the valve timing usually the cam will come with a spec 118 BTDC for my cam if I remember once I set the timing on std mark and it is on my true TDC mark set the timing disk to 0 and turn the crank to my cam setting 118 BTDC then I adjust the cam again by using a DTI on the inlet valve if you have set the timing up close and have your cam pulley set in the middle of the slotted adjustment holes you should be able to set the valve to full lift by turning the cam pulley make sure that the crank is still at 118 or whatever your cam spec is nip all the cam pulley cap screws up and turn the engine over by hand before starting.

I have only ever done 2 YB engines and had issues with the first, had to check it and redo the exhaust cam as it was out but cant remember what it was.
